LETHBRIDGE, AB – The third annual Tri-High Food Drive has come to a close.

Chinook High School, Lethbridge Collegiate Institute (LCI) and Winston Churchill High School have been facing off in a friendly competition to raise funds and food on behalf of the Lethbridge Food Bank.

From December 1 to December 20, 2022, all three schools were tasked with collecting the most donations to not only receive a shiny trophy but to give back to an organization that needs it most.

According to Leadership and P.E. Instructor at LCI, Michaela Dilworth, the Tri-High Food Drive is one of the Lethbridge Food Banks’ largest fundraisers throughout the year.

“It started because we wanted to challenge our communities to get involved a little bit in donating food to those in need,” explained Dilworth.

“So, I thought why don’t we challenge the other two high schools and make this a little bit of a friendly competition in Lethbridge?”

A final weigh-in took place at the food bank on December 20, 2022, to determine the winner between the trio.

In total, the three schools raised $10,929 for the Lethbridge Food Bank.

Coming in third place, LCI collected 795 lbs of food combined with monetary donations, which came out to about $2,852.

In second place, Winston Churchill collected 947 lbs of food and collected cash that totaled $3,463.

For the second year in a row, Chinook came out on top after raising 752 lbs of food, along with the single largest monetary donation of the year, $1,200. In total, the Westside school raised $4,614.

“I just want to say thank you to everyone who contributed whether it was money or food, it does go a long way,” added Dilworth. “We’ve volunteered here as a class ourselves and we do see the impact it directly makes on our community, so every can, can make a difference.”

While the Tri-High Food Drive closes out 2022, anyone looking to donate to the Food Bank before the holidays can check out the Lethbridge Food Bank website.
