Lethbridge Police seizes $157K worth of drugs, largest fentanyl bust in downtown core

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) says it has made the largest seizure of fentanyl in the history of the downtown core.

At approximately 10:15 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2022, officers were patrolling the 300 block of 4 and 5 Street South after receiving multiple reports of fentanyl overdoses during the previous hour.

Police say they located a truck parked in an alley with its lights on and engine running.

“The driver was found slumped over and when police checked on him, a significant quantity of methamphetamine was observed in his possession,” says LPS in a media release.

LPS claims to have confiscated approximately 485 grams of fentanyl (more than 4,800 doses), 204 grams of methamphetamine (more than 2,000 individual doses), and 15 grams of cocaine.

The police service adds that the total street value of the dugs is just over $157,000.

Officers also seized nearly $1,000 in cash, brass knuckles, drug trafficking paraphernalia, and suspected stolen property.

Larry Healy Jr., 43, of Standoff, is charged with three counts each of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and breaching a release order, and one count each of possession of the proceeds of crime and possession of a prohibited weapon.

Healy Jr. remains in custody and is awaiting a bail hearing.
