4.2 magnitude earthquake vibrates northern Alberta

GRAND PRAIRIE, AB – On Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at 10:36 a.m., Earthquake Canada reported seismic activity in northern Alberta.

The magnitude of the earthquake was recorded at 4.2 just 67 kilometers southeast of Grand Prairie.

There are no reports of damage from the earthquake and none are expected.

Only one person in the area has reported feeling any activity, and it was described as weak shaking.

The last recorded seismic activity closest in the region was south of Grande Prairie in February 2022, both under the magnitude of 4.2.

A 5.8 magnitude earthquake was also recorded in November 2022, just 172 km northeast of Grande Prairie, closer to Reno.
