Crews respond to train derailment on Highway 3 east of Taber

TABER, AB – Canadian Pacific (CP) Police are on scene of a train derailment in Southern Alberta.

At 12:10 a.m. on December 28, 2022, the Taber RCMP responded to an area of Highway 3 to assist CP Police following a derailment. The RCMP says 11 railcars were reported to have derailed at various locations along Highway 3 between Highway 36 in Taber, to Range Road 163 and Range Road 162.

Police say there were no injuries and that no dangerous goods or hazardous materials spilled.

CP Police remain on scene as of 10:30 a.m., along with crews from Volker Stevin Highway control services. The RCMP is no longer on scene. Traffic is down to one lane east and west on Highway 3.

Motorists are advised of delays while the clean-up process continues.

The RCMP is advising drivers to avoid traveling if possible. If travel is necessary, police ask motorists to slow down and adjust their driving to the conditions of the road.
