Banff officials investigating fatal pedestrian collision involving train

BANFF, AB – Banff RCMP and Canadian Pacific Police (CPP) are continuing to investigate after a pedestrian was struck by a train.
At approximately 9:50 a.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2022, officials say a 19-year-old woman was walking across the CP Rail main line in Banff when she was hit by a westbound CP intermodal container train.
Banff RCMP says in a media release, “The female was believed to be wearing ear buds at the time of the incident, which may have contributed to failing to hear the approaching train.”
The woman was pronounced deceased on scene.
