Health Canada recalls Halloween cop costume due to possible chemical hazard

Dec 29, 2022 | 1:37 PM

CANADA – Health Canada has issued a recall on various Spirit Halloween police uniform costumes that were sold between September 2022 and October 2022.

The recall specifically involves the police hats in each of the sets, as they may contain lead in excess of the allowable limit established by the Consumer Products Containing Lead Regulations.

A range of serious health effects have been associated with exposure to lead and cadmium, including anemia, vomiting, diarrhea, heart and immune system.

Lead is extremely toxic, and even more so to children.

The company is reporting that 62 of the potentially affected products were sold in Canada.

Costumes that are not included in the recall can be identified by the presence of a tag inside the hat that contains a statement to the effect of “Made in China”.

Affected hats do not contain this label.

Those who may have purchased one of the affected items are asked to immediately stop using the product and contact Spirit Halloween for additional information and a replacement product.

As of December 23, 2022, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.

For more information, people can contact Spirit Halloween by calling 1-866-586-0155 or by accessing the Spirit Halloween website.

Additional information on the recall can be found on the Health Canada Recall website.
