Lethbridge-Medicine Hat region sees lowest unemployment rate in Alberta in December

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The latest unemployment figures have been released, and the Lethbridge-Medicine Hat economic region saw a slight drop.

In December, 2022, the region’s jobless rate was 2.8%. In comparison, the rate in November, 2022 was 2.9%. Lethbridge-Medicine Hat had the lowest unemployment rate in Alberta.

Last month, the provincial jobless rate was 5.8%, unchanged from November.

Red Deer had the highest rate in December, at 6.4%.

Below is how each economic region fared last month, with November’s rate listed in parenthesis:

  • Red Deer: 6.4% (6.2)
  • Calgary: 5.7% (5.4)
  • Banff-Jasper-Rocky Mountain House and Athabasca-Grande Prairie-Peace River: 5.2% (5.6)
  • Edmonton: 4.9% (4.9)
  • Wood Buffalo-Cold Lake: 4.7% (4.5)
  • Camrose-Drumheller: 3.2% (3.9)
  • Lethbridge-Medicine Hat: 2.8% (2.9)

Nationally, Canada’s unemployment rate in December was 5.0%, as the country’s economy added 104,000 jobs, according to Statistics Canada. In November, the jobless rate in Canada was 5.1%.
