LETHBRIDGE, AB – Two local community groups have teamed to participate in a federal program aimed at assisting regional charities.

The Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta, and the United Way of Lethbridge and South Western Alberta have announced their involvement in the Community Services Recovery Fund (CSRF). The CSRF is a one-time investment of $400 million by the federal government.

It is aimed at supporting the charitable sector’s pandemic recovery. It will be facilitated by local community foundations, Canadian Red Crosses, and United Ways across the country.

Funding from the CSRF will allow charities to invest in their own organizational capacity to:

  • Adapt the way they deliver services to support the needs of their staff and volunteers.
  • Buy equipment like computers and software.
  • Create new ways of working, like developing new fundraising approaches.
  • Provide support for staff and volunteers, such as staff training, supports for mental health and wellbeing.
  • Develop plans to receive funding from diverse sources.

The Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta has $570,000 to award. The United Way has $419,024 available. Overall, that is $989,024 to support charities in Southern Alberta.

The application period is now open, and will remain open until February 21, 2023. A webinar providing more details is set for 12:00 p.m. on January 12. Registration can be done online.
