TABER, AB – The Taber Police Service (TPS) has laid charges after a pride flag was allegedly stolen from a home and damaged.

TPS says the alleged incidents occurred on three separate occasions between December 15 and 25, 2022.

Chief Graham Abela says the police investigation indicates that the mischiefs were motivated by bias towards the LGBTQ2+ community.

“The targeting of individuals in our community due to sexual orientation is something that simply can’t be tolerated. We are happy we have been able to identify the alleged suspect and provide some relief to the victim,” says Abela.

A 17-year-old boy from Taber is charged with three counts of mischief under $5,000. He was released from custody with conditions to appear in Taber Youth Court.

Due to restrictions under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the name of the suspect cannot be released.
