LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Blue Cross is encouraging thousands of Albertans to get out and embrace the cold on February 1, 2023 through Winter Walk Day.

The annual event is aimed at getting people outdoors and taking a 15-minute stroll in the crisp air to promote mental and physical health.

Brian Geislinger, vice-president of Corporate Relations with Alberta Blue Cross said in a release, “The health benefits of walking and of getting outdoors in the fresh air are indisputable — and Winter Walk Day is the perfect blend of both.”

“We know that activity levels decline over the winter months as fewer people venture outdoors, which reiterates the importance of Winter Walk Day in encouraging Albertans to keep active through the winter months,” he explained.

Winter Walk Day was first created in 2006 and has continued to pique the interest of Albertans for 17 years with more than 800 organizations and 100,000 people participating in 2022.

Community members are encouraged to bundle up and get active outdoors this winter, by taking part in the annual challenge.

Those looking to take part in this year’s initiative can register online at the SHAPE Alberta website.
