LETHBRIDGE, AB – A hockey player from Lethbridge will seek a repeat of his successful NHL debut in his second outing with the Ottawa Senators on Friday, January 27, 2023.

Ridly Greig hit the ice for the first time with the club on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, taking on the New York Islanders.

Around three minutes and 28 seconds into the second period, Greig made an assist as Claude Giroux scored the game-winning goal for the Senators in their 2-1 victory.

Speaking to media after the game, Greig says, “It was unreal. Obviously a dream come true just to get out there, and then obviously to get the win, that’s pretty good.”

Growing up, he says he idolized Giroux, so it was “unreal” to be part of the game-winning effort alongside him.

With a total of 13 minutes and 46 seconds on the ice, Greig registered eight shots and had two takeaways.

The NHL club bestowed the “Performer of the Game” honour upon Greig for his efforts.

Greig was selected by Ottawa in the first round, 28 overall, in the 2020 NHL Draft.

Prior to this, the 20-year-old spent five seasons with the Brandon Wheat Kings in the Western Hockey League before playing for one season with the Belleville Senators in the AHL.

He says playing in the NHL was a wholly different experience, “with the crowds and bigger building and everything, the atmosphere, and it’s a bit quicker.”

Greig will suit up for Ottawa again at 5:00 p.m. MST on Friday, January 27, 2023, as the Senators travel to Toronto to take on the Maple Leafs.
