Town of Coaldale office opens at new Civic Square location

COALDALE, AB – It’s official, the Town of Coaldale office has moved into its new location in Civic Square and is open for business.

Mayor Jack Van Rijn confirmed on social media on January 30, 2023, that town staff are finally settled into the new space.

The two-storey building has four condominium retail outlets on the main floor, with the second floor being all administrative offices.

Kalen Hastings, Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Coaldale said in a release, “It’s exciting to finally make the move to our new Town Office. A lot went into the planning of this building, and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.”

“We look at the Civic Square project as much more than just the construction of a new Town Office; at its core it’s an economic development project that, once fully operational, will serve as a gathering place that will attract people and events to Coaldale’s downtown core,” he added.

So far, Westland Insurance has taken one of the retail spaces below, and Buster’s Pizza and Donair is set to open in April 2023.

On the west side of the Civic Square building, there’s an atrium with a seating capacity of 260 people that can be used for weddings and conventions.

With the first phase of the Civic Centre Project complete, development for phases two and three are set to commence.

According to the City of Coaldale, “These phases will not only allow for further development of up to 10,000 square feet of additional commercial space along Coaldale’s Main Street, but will also see the redevelopment of the outdoor space directly behind the Civic Square Building.”

It went on, “This space will be transformed into a community gathering space by serving as a hub for festivals, markets, outdoor skating, and other community events while also providing parking for Coaldale’s expanding downtown.”

The new Town of Coaldale office is located at #200, 1801 20th Ave and is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. on weekdays, Monday through Friday.
