Lethbridge MP seeking new members for Youth Advisory Board

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Teens and young adults who think they have what it takes to advise the Member of Parliament for Lethbridge can apply to join a board.

Rachael Thomas has opened applications for the 2023-2024 Youth Advisory Board (YAB).

Anyone who lives in the Lethbridge federal riding, which includes Lethbridge County, and is between the ages of 16 and 24 can apply.

Thomas says applicants do not need to be experts in policy, but should be curious and committed to learning.

“This is my seventh year of hosting a Youth Advisory Board and I love it! By giving young people a seat at the table, I hope to communicate that their participation is valuable. I want them to be empowered to use their voices and become increasingly engaged in the federal political process,” says Thomas.

She adds that the YAB will discuss a wide range of topics such as mental health, homelessness, addiction, the federal government’s response to COVID-19, natural resource development, environmental policy, agriculture, freedom of speech, firearms, and more.

Members will have opportunities to share their perspectives and offer advice concerning federal policy and legislative issues.

A total of eight people will be selected for the YAB, whose terms will run from September 2023 to May 2024.

Agendas for each meeting will be determined by the board members and each will get to chair a meeting.

Those who complete their term on the YAB will receive a certificate of completion and a letter of commendation. Students are encouraged to seek school credit, if possible, for their participation in the program.

Anyone who is interested in applying can do so at RachaelThomas.ca. The deadline to apply is March 10, 2023.
