Lethbridge Public Library to continue free memberships into 2023

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Public Library (LPL) has announced that it will be carrying its free membership over for the fourth consecutive year.

That means book lovers will not have to worry about coughing up any extra fees to check out books in 2023.

This comes after the City of Lethbridge Library Board approved the elimination of membership fees for another year based on the ongoing needs within the community.

Craig Brown, Chair for the Library Board, said in a release, “Our Board sees the value in working to establish access for all to the Library, and its resources and materials. Membership fees provide a significant barrier to many, and eliminating fees ensures that all residents are able to access the Library’s physical and virtual services equally.”

Brown continued, “The Library is a welcoming, inclusive space that works to connect and strengthen our community through equitable access to learning and leisure – be that in person or online – and this opportunity only reinforces that.”

Prior to 2019 when LPL first started offering free memberships, library cards cost less than $25 and generated $90,000 to $100,000 dollars per year.

Those interested in picking up or renewing their free Lethbridge Public Library membership can do so online or in person.
