Success in Edmonton for local wrestlers

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Local wrestlers saw success at a recent event in Edmonton.

Members of the Lethbridge Amateur Wrestling Association (LAWA) competed at the Golden Bear Invitational on January 28, 2023.

Hundreds of athletes from 20 different weight categories from across the Prairies took part in the event. The Lethbridge wrestlers won a combined 15 medals between the Novice and Elite divisions.

Riley Ellis-Toddington, president of the LAWA said, “Our athletes continue to push the bar for our sport in Southern Alberta. Their dedication and commitment show in these results.”

Ellis-Toddington added, “Our organization will continue to promote and elevate wrestling in our area.”

Below is a breakdown of the Lethbridge winners.

Novice Division:

  • Amelia Prevenost (53 kg Junior) – Silver
  • Luke Low (42 kg Junior) – Fifth place
  • Ozzie Jahn (49 kg Junior) – Fourth place
  • Grady Steed (51 kg Junior) – Bronze
  • Burke Hall (63 kg Junior) – Bronze
  • Danya Braun (67 kg Senior) – Gold
  • Christien Lowry (66 kg Senior) – Gold
  • Joe Shin (76 kg Senior) – Silver
  • Tyler Saruwatari (94 kg Senior) – Gold

Elite Division:

  • Amelia Prevenost (53 kg Junior) – Silver
  • Tamryn Bly (50 kg Senior) – Bronze
  • Reese Ferguson (57 kg Senior) – Gold
  • Payton Shields (61 kg Senior) Gold
  • Danya Braun (65 kg Senior) – Bronze
  • Solomon Prevenost (72 kg Senior) – Silver
  • Ryder Lowry (98 kg Senior) – Gold
  • Tyler Saruwatari (98 kg Senior) – Silver
