LETHBRIDGE, AB – The City of Lethbridge will conduct its own population count for the first time since 2019.

The City of Lethbridge 2023 Municipal Census will be done over a three-week period beginning on April 1, 2023.

Leading up to this, the city is hiring a number of census takers who will provide a count of the number of people living in Lethbridge.

“This is important information to gather as it provides planning data used for such needs as infrastructure and schools,” the City of Lethbridge says in a media release.

Census takers will be responsible for going to households and dropping off census door hangers, which contain individual codes. Residents will use the codes to complete the census questionnaire online.

Workers will also need to follow up on any households that do not complete the census.

The city is looking for candidates who live in Lethbridge, are at least 18 years old, enjoy walking, can operate a smart phone or tablet, and have an active email account.

Succesful applicants will be notified by mid-March.

Census takers will be paid $2.50 per household they reach. There is also compensation for the use of the worker’s electronic device and for training.

Applications can be found on the City of Lethbridge website.

The City of Lethbridge’s 2019 municipal census revealed a population of 101,482. The 2021 federal census, on the other hand, shows that the city’s population was 98,406.
