Over 30 Lethbridge businesses recognized with Awards of Excellence in Housing

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Building Industry & Land Development Association (BILD) has hosted the Awards of Excellence in Housing Gala for over 24 years.

It is aimed at celebrating the achievements of BILD Lethbridge Region members and presenting awards to the highest-scoring local developers, renovators, home builders, trades and suppliers.

A total of 87 entries were made for the 2022 award ceremony, and 22 industry professionals from across Canada were tasked with judging candidates in each category.

On February 10, 2023, BILD Lethbridge handed out 33 awards at the annual black-tie gala at the Coast Hotel.

Bridget Mearns, executive officer of BILD Lethbridge said, “It was great to celebrate these noteworthy achievements during a year of uncertainty. Our members continue to strive for excellence, creating a quality showcase for judges.”

She went on, “The commitment BILD Lethbridge members have in designing, building, and supplying the best products for Lethbridge citizens is truly admirable, making the competition fierce amongst entrants.”

Some of the award categories included home design, safety, renovations and marketing. There were also five feature awards including Builder of the Year, Custom Builder of the Year, Best Development of the Year, Best Supplier, and Best Trade.

The standout awards were presented to the following:

• Builder of the Year – Stranville Living Master Builder
• Custom Builder of the Year – Van Arbour Homes
• Best Development of the Year – BlackWolf
• Best Supplier – Timber Tech Truss
• Best Trade – Neu-Lite Electric

Alongside the award ceremony, BILD Lethbridge Region recognized a long-time member of the Association into the organization’s Hall of Fame.

Keith Broadbent from KB Heating Plumbing and Air Conditioning was presented with the prestigious honour for being an outstanding industry leader, mentor and ambassador on behalf of BILD.

Broadbent told Lethbridge News Now how honoured he was to receive such a title, “We started just my brother and myself 40 years ago now, and it’s really neat that we’ve got to this. We would have never believed that we’d go from two guys to sometimes 120 to 150 employees.”

“We started off doing residential HVAC and then added plumbing on to it and now we do large commercial jobs in the city,” he said. “We’ve done five, six, seven schools, the ENMAX Centre, and we probably do an average of 200 new homes.”
