Body recovered near Lake Louise

LAKE LOUISE, AB – Parks Canada has completed its investigation into the death of a person in the Lake Louise area of Banff National Park.

At approximately 11:00 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2023, a Parks Canada visitor safety officer received a report of an abandoned vehicle parked at the trail head to the Polar Circus Ice Climb.

The caller said they were concerned for any climbers who might still be out due to the darkness.

A search and rescue crew arrived at the ice climb at 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning and launched a drone to aid in the search.

A man, 42, of no fixed address, was found deceased in the area.

The man’s body was removed from the area via a helicopter.

The cause of the man’s death has not been determined.
