Lethbridge wrestlers take home nine medals at Calgary tournament

CALGARY, AB – It was a successful weekend for wrestlers from the Lethbridge Amateur Wrestling Association (LAWA).

The local wrestlers had a strong showing at the 2023 Sir Winston Churchill tournament in Calgary, Alberta on February 10 and 11, 2023.

Ten athletes won five golds, three silvers and a bronze for a total of nine medals. The results were as follows:

  • Tyler Saruwatari 98kg Gold, Lethbridge Collegiate Institute (LCI)
  • Ryder Lowry 90kg Gold LCI
  • Solomon Prenevost 72kg Gold LCI
  • Thomas Ellis-Toddington 65kg Gold LCI
  • Payton Shields 61kg Gold LCI
  • Danya Braun 68kg Silver Immanuel Christian Secondary
  • Christien Lowry 65kg Silver LCI
  • Tamyrn Bly 49kg Silver LCI
  • Nolan Gobeil 125kg+ Bronze LCI
  • Chaeho (Joe) Shin 68kg 4th Chinook High School

This was the third consecutive weekend of competition for the young athletes, and LAWA President Riley Ellis is excited for Lethbridge to host the Provincial Championships next month.

“We look forward to hosting the Provincial Championships on March 17th and 18th at LCI, which will showcase all the talent in the province right in our hometown,” said Ellis.
