Lethbridge rental prices up year over year in January

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The average rental prices in Lethbridge went up year over year in January.

That’s according to the latest National Rent Report, from Rentals.ca and Urbanation. The report found that a one-bedroom unit in Lethbridge rented for $1,203, on average. Meanwhile, the average price for two-bedroom units was listed at $1,349.

Year over year, the average monthly rent in January for a one-bedroom unit in the city was up 18.2 per cent and up 16.5 per cent for a two-bedroom.

Vancouver, British Columbia was the most expensive city to rent in last month, with the average price for a one-bedroom unit listed at $2,730 a month. A two-bedroom unit rented for $3,624, on average.

35 cities across Canada were included in the report. Below is how each Alberta community included in the report fared for the month of January:

  • Calgary (26):
    • Average price of a one-bedroom unit was $1,526.
      • Up 1.9 per cent month over month, up 19.2 per cent year over year
    • Average price of a two-bedroom unit was $1,894.
      • Up 2.1 per cent month over month, up 21.7 per cent year over year
  • Lethbridge (30):
    • Average price of a one-bedroom unit was $1,203.
      • Up 3.1 per cent month over month, up 18.2 per cent year over year
    • Average price of a two-bedroom unit was $1,349.
      • Down 2.7 per cent month over month, up 16.5 per cent year over year
  • Edmonton (31):
    • Average price of a one-bedroom unit was $1,096.
      • Down 1.6 per cent month over month, up 6.7 per cent year over year
    • Average price of a two-bedroom unit was $1,403.
      • Down 1.5 per cent month over month, up 10.6 per cent year over year
  • Red Deer (33)
    • Average price of a one-bedroom unit was $1,060.
      • Up 4.4 per cent month over month, up 7.4 per cent year over year
    • Average price of a two-bedroom unit was $1,264.
      • Up 7.1 per cent month over month, up 18.1 per cent year over year
  • Grande Prairie (35)
    • Average price of a one-bedroom unit was $1,013.
      • Up 0.6 per cent month over month, up 12.8 per cent year over year
    • Average price of a two-bedroom unit was $1,179.
      • Up 2.7 per cent month over month, up 7.5 per cent year over year

The national average rental price for a one-bedroom unit in January was $1,749, while two-bedroom units rented for $2,162, on average.
