Hurricanes’ Bryan Thomson named WHL Goaltender of the Week

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Western Hockey League (WHL) has recognized the on-ice efforts of Lethbridge Hurricanes goaltender Bryan Thomson.

Thomson has been named the WHL’s Goaltender of the Week for the week ending Sunday, February 19, 2023. In two wins, the 20-year-old from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan only allowed one goal. He posted a 0.50 goals-against-average, a .985 save percentage and one shutout in the process.

On Wednesday, February 15, the Hurricanes beat the Calgary Hitmen 3-0. The Lethbridge club followed that up with a 3-1 win against the Brandon Wheat Kings on Friday, February 17.

In Wednesday’s victory, Thomson stopped all 36 shots that came his way. He earned First Star of the Game honours for his performance. In Friday night’s win, Thomson made 30 saves and was named the game’s Second Star.

Over his last eight games dating back to January 15, Thomson has allowed one goal or fewer six times, posting a record of 6-1-1-0, a 1.25 goals-against-average, a .960 save percentage and two shutouts.

Thomson was originally selected by the Hurricanes in the second round of the 2017 WHL Draft and holds a career record of 53-37-4-2, a 3.00 goals-against-average, a .902 save percentage and four shutouts across 105 regular season games with Lethbridge.

Thomson and the Hurricanes visit the Regina Pats on Monday, February 20.
