LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta is coming off Family Day long weekend, which means a short week with lots of events.

Mother Language Day at the Southern Alberta Ethnic Association – February 21, 2023

International Mother Language Day is an initiative brought forward by the people of Bangladesh. It is a way to commemorate the day when the people of Bangladesh (formerly East Pakistan) fought for recognition of the Bangla language. People are encouraged to leave flowers in commemoration of the day inside the Multicultural Centre from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 21. Lethbridge City Hall will also be lit up in red and green lights to honour the day.

Owl Poetry at the Owl Acoustic Lounge – February 22

On Wednesday, February 22, the public can drop in at the Owl Acoustic Lounge from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for an open mic poetry reading. This event helps to showcase local talents and is hosted by Teri Petz. Admission to Owl Poetry is free and open to all ages.

Are we COPing out on Climate at the Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization – February 23

The Southern Alberta Council on Public Affairs (SACPA) is hosting a public talk on Climate Change at the Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization (LSCO) on Thursday, February 23. From 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., community members are invited to attend a presentation hosted by University of Lethbridge professor Kent Peacock as he summarizes some recent scientific findings on climate change. Lethbridge Hurricanes play at the ENMAX Centre – February 24

The Lethbridge Hurricanes play on home ice this Friday, February 24. The Hurricanes will go head-to-head with the Kamloops Blazers starting at 7:00 p.m. at the ENMAX Centre. Tickets for the game can be found on the ENMAX Centre website.

Coldest Night of the Year – February 25

The Coldest Night of the Year is a national movement that occurs simultaneously across the country on Saturday, February 25. It aims to raise money for local charities and non-profit organizations. This year, there will be two walks in Lethbridge: one will take place in downtown Lethbridge for the Streets Alive Mission, and the other will take participants around Henderson Lake for Wood’s Homes Lethbridge. Danger Cats Comedy at the Yates Memorial Centre – February 25

Three Canadian comedians will make their way to Lethbridge this weekend. Uncle Hack, Sam Walker and Brett Forte are set to take the stage at the Yates Memorial Centre on Saturday, February 25. Starting at 7:00 p.m., Danger Cats Comedy will leave nothing off the table as they poke fun at an all-ages audience. Tickets for the show can be purchased on the Danger Cats website.

Winter Light Festival at Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden – Final week

Time is running out to see the Winter Light Festival at Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden. From now until February 26, 2023, guests can see light and ice sculpture displays while learning about Japanese culture and traditions. Tickets are available Friday through Sunday, with additional passes available for the Kamakura [Igloo] Dome Experience.
