RCMP investigating suspected pipe bomb incidents in Claresholm

CLARESHOLM, AB – The RCMP in Claresholm is investigating incidents reportedly involving suspected explosive devices.

Police said that Monday, March 6, 2023, at 8:18 a.m., members of the Claresholm detachment responded to a complaint of a garbage receptacle that had exploded in Amundsen Park. The bin had reportedly been blown up at around 2:10 a.m., according to police.

The RCMP canvassed the area and spoke with residents. Police said this resulted in a video being obtained from a resident’s doorbell camera. According to the RCMP, the video showed a taller man and a shorter person walking up to the receptacle and placing something inside, before walking away from the scene.

The RCMP was later directed to a garbage bin at the Town of Claresholm compost site.

Town employees said the bin had been damaged on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at around 6:30 in the morning.
