HIGH PRAIRIE, AB – The RCMP in High Prairie is continuing to investigate an incident that led to the death of a child.

At 5:35 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, 2023, the RCMP said members received a report of a fatal dog attack at a home on the Whitefish First Nation. Officers say a five-year-old boy was found deceased and had sustained injuries that were consistent with a dog attack.

According to the RCMP, area residents had already located and put two dogs down who were believed to have been involved in the attack. RCMP officers found and euthanized a third dog.

All of the dogs have been taken for forensic and medical testing.

The deceased child has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

No charges have been laid at this time.
