LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Coaldale Fire Department and Lethbridge County Fire Services were on scene to put out a fire at Marshalls Metals Scrap Recycling Ltd.

Just after 12:30 p.m. on March 24, 2023, officials say a fire broke out on half of the shop car baler, a machine that is used to compact unusable vehicles into small bales of metal.

Byron Fraser, Manager of Fire Services for Lethbridge County said, “We got a call about a fire on a piece of equipment, and we rolled in and noticed big flames coming out of the south end of the piece of equipment.”

Fraser went on, “Workers had tried to extinguish the fire with a bunch of fire extinguishers [and] were unsuccessful. Got crews in and waited until we had a bunch of foam brought in before we started to waste any water on it. Anyway, the fire was contained to the apparatus and never went anywhere.”
