Alberta land border crossings to return to pre-pandemic hours

CARWAY, AB – The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has announced that the hours of operation for dozens of ports of entry will return to their pre-pandemic levels later this week.

Minister of Public Safety Marco Mendicino said, effective at 10:01 p.m. MST on Thursday, March 30, 2023, a total of 39 land border crossings and three air ports of entry will be impacted.

“The expansion of hours at ports of entry all along the Canada-US border will make it easier for local residents to do everything from getting goods to market to seeing friends and family,” said Mendicino. “The dedicated employees of the Canada Border Services Agency are our country’s front line, and I want to thank them for their partnership in extending hours at over 40 crossings.”

In Alberta, four land border crossings will have longer hours:

  • Carway
    • 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. – seven days per week
  • Chief Mountain
    • 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (May 15 to May 31)
    • 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. (June 1 to Labour Day)
    • 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (after Labour Day to September 30) – seven days per week
    • Closed (October 1 to May 14)
  • Del Bonita
    • 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. (June 1 to September 15)
    • 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (September 16 to May 31)
    • Seven days per week
  • Wild Horse
    • 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. (May 15 to September 30)
    • 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (October 1 to May 14)
    • Seven days per week

The land border crossing at Coutts is already operating around the clock.

As well, the Whetstone International Airport at Del Bonita will see new hours for telephone reporting:

  • 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. (June 1 to September 15)
  • 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (September 16 to May 31)
  • Seven days per week
