City of Lethbridge: water with “off-smelling odour” safe to consume

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge residents are being told that their tap water is still safe to drink, even if it smells a little funny.

The City of Lethbridge said there has been a recent increase in chlorine dosages at the water treatment plant.

This, according to the city, has been done to ensure that water is being properly treated due to the spring run-off.

They say people may notice an off-smelling odour or taste coming from their residential water outlets over the next few weeks.

“While this treatment is occurring, the water is safe for consumption and can be used as normal,” the city said in a news release.

The smell and taste of tap water is expected to gradually improve as adjustments in treatments take effect and water in the system is consumed.
