LETHBRIDGE, AB – The City of Lethbridge is set to debut a fleet of new waste collection trucks and said they need clever names.

In preparation of the city-wide rollout of curbside organics collection in April 2023, the municipality has launched the “Name That Truck” contest.

Elementary, middle, and high school students can submit names for the waste, recycling, and organics collection vehicles.

To submit your child’s entry, residents can scan or take a photo of their colouring page with the entrant’s name, grade, school, and truck names. Entries can be sent in by emailing contest@lethbridge.ca.

As provided by a release from the City of Lethbridge, the contest rules are as follows:

  • To enter, you must be a Lethbridge student (elementary, middle and high school);
  • All details must be completed in full on the colouring sheet;
  • The name should be creative and fun;
  • The name should be unique and checked against other possible uses or meanings (especially in the case of acronyms);
  • The name will preferably be short, unique, easy to pronounce and easy to remember;
  • Name entries should be easily identifiable as a garbage, recycling or organics collection truck;
  • The trucks should not be named after a person;
  • The name should not have any trademark implications;
  • Have fun!

Entries must be submitted by the end of the day on Sunday, April 2, 2023.

Earlier this year, the City of Lethbridge unveiled the winners of a similar snow plow naming contest. Names such as Darth Blader, Mr. Plow, and Mean Jean the Snow Plow Machine were chosen.
