LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes will hope for better results in game two after a disappointing start to their post-season.

The first-round playoff opener took place at the Moose Jaw Events Centre on Friday, March 31, 2023, as the Canes fell 2-1 to the Warriors in overtime.

Neither team got on the scoreboard in the first period, but Logan Dowhaniuk hit the net for the Warriors at the 4:53 mark in the second.

About seven minutes later, the Hurricanes’ Cole Shepard evened things up with a goal of his own. Brayden Edwards provided an assist.

It took two playoff rounds to decide the winner.

With 17.9 seconds remaining in the fifth period, Jagger Firkus scored the game-winner for Moose Jaw.

The Warriors outshot the Canes 54-51 en route to victory.

Canes Goalie Bryan Thomson was named the second star of the game. He spent 99 minus and 43 seconds on the ice, stopping 52 shots on goal.

Game two in the best-of-seven series takes place on Saturday, April 1, 2023, in Moose Jaw.

The Hurricanes return to the ENMAX Centre on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 4 and 5, 2023, for games three and four.
