Slow your Roll campaign returns to Lethbridge in 2023

LETHBRIDGE, AB – While #SlowYourRoll was sparked out of a fatal pedestrian collision three years ago, the message behind the campaign continues to inspire people each year.

Entering 2023, the campaign returns to remind drivers to slow down, drive safely and be aware of children playing.

On April 13, 2020, 10-year-old Charles McIntyre was struck by a vehicle exiting the Crossings Business Centre parking lot in Lethbridge and died.

In response, #SlowYourRoll was launched to promote safe driving and to honour McIntyre’s memory.

Lethbridge realtor, Chris DiPasquale, founded #SlowYourRoll and committed his time to designing and distributing lawn signs, shirts, hats and decals to raise awareness on slowing down.

In the past, donations made to #SlowYourRoll were given to the Mindful Munchies program at the Lethbridge Food Bank.

While they were able to share the message in 2020 and 2021, COVID-19 restrictions put a pause on operations in 2022.

This year, DiPasquale has teamed up with YMCA and the McIntyre Family to revitalize the campaign.

Through the Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta, the McIntyre Family established the Charles McIntyre Fund to support youth in Lethbridge through YMCA programs.

Charles McIntyre enjoyed visiting the YMCA frequently with his younger brother Simon and participated in numerous summer camp programs.

The goal for 2023 is to raise over $10,000 to fully establish the fund and to allow the start of annual contributions starting in 2024.

Apparel and signage are now available online, alongside a silent auction photography print from Jeff Hinman.
