LETHBRIDGE, AB – A man from Lethbridge will spend another three years and three months behind bars after learning his fate this week.

In Lethbridge Provincial Court on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, Hunter Alexander Frank, 20, received a four-year sentence on one count of manslaughter and a lifetime firearms prohibition. He was given a partial credit for time already served in custody.

Frank was charged in connection to the death of Tia Blood, 34, in October 2022.

According to The Canadian Press, Frank sold fentanyl to Blood that lead to her fatal overdose. Frank left her body in a ditch just outside of Lethbridge and emptied her bank account.

In a statement from the family of Tia Blood, they say they have accepted the conviction and sentencing of the individual responsible for their loved one’s death.

“As we continue to pick up the pieces, we will never truly understand why this happened to Tia but we will do our part in supporting her sons by loving them the way she would have wanted us to,” reads a statement from Blood’s family. “We will honour her memory by sharing our stories about her silliness, generosity, loyalty and her love. We will continue our journey in our grieving and more importantly, healing. We must heal from this, and we will for Tia.

A charge of trafficking a controlled substance was withdrawn.
