Alberta Mounties reminding drivers about the dangers of speeding

EDMONTON, AB – As spring inches closer and closer, RCMP officers across the province would like to remind drivers about the dangers of speeding.

Alberta RCMP Traffic Inspector, Chris Romanchych said in a release, “Collisions where speed is a factor are far more likely to lead to serious injuries or fatalities.”

Speeding in Alberta is still a common issue with over 55,000 speeding tickets issued in 2022.

RCMP did have some tips for motorists to be mindful of this spring:

  • Be cautious in construction and school zones, as these areas have a high amount of pedestrian traffic.
  • Give yourself extra time to arrive at your destination, to avoid the feeling of being rushed in traffic.
  • Drivers should remember that the faster you’re going the longer it takes to stop.
  • Posted speed limits are for ideal conditions, so make sure you drive to the conditions of the road.

Romanchych went on, “Saving a minute or two isn’t worth risking a life. Make sure you follow the speed limit, and if conditions are poor, slow down.”
