UPDATE: Lethbridge Police take one man into custody following barricading incident

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) is advising that the incident on the south side has been resolved.

Officers have safely taken a 41-year-old male into custody from a home along the 1600 block of 15 Avenue South.

LPS indicates there is no ongoing risk and the public is no longer asked to avoid the area.

An investigation into the incident continues, and police will remain on scene until later this afternoon.

No further information will be released today.

Police thank the community for their cooperation.

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) is on scene of an incident on the south side.

Shortly after 9 a.m. on Thursday, April 6, 2023, the LPS issued a notice that officers were on scene of a situation involving a barricaded person inside a home along the 1600 block of 15 Avenue South.

The public was asked to avoid the area, but that advisory was rescinded at around 9:45 a.m., as police thanked the public for their cooperation during the investigation.

However, at 11:11 a.m., LPS noted that officers were still on scene and once again asked the public to avoid the area. In a news release, police stated, “This is an ongoing incident that continues to evolve and police appreciate the public’s cooperation in helping to ensure everyone’s safety.”
