Apr 9, 2023 | 1:23 PM

TABER, AB – The Municipal District of Taber and the County of Forty Mile are warning motorists about spring runoff impacting several roadways.

The recent warm stretch of weather has flooded a number of highways and rural roads in the area, and drivers are being asked to exercise extreme caution.

A social media post from the MD of Taber on April 8, 2023, advised citizens not to move or bypass barricades that are in place or travel on closed roads as there may be hidden hazards, including washouts and erosion.

The County of Forty Mile also reported on April 9, that the risk of flooding remains high throughout the county, and that flooding on the main St. Mary River and Taber Irrigation District’s (SMRID) canal is possible.

People are asked to avoid the main canal area for the time being, and those living nearby are encouraged to prepare for the possibility of overland flooding.

Individuals driving at night are reminded to go slow as conditions can change rapidly.

Updates on the spring runoff can be found on the MD of Taber website or the County of Forty Mile website.
