LETHBRIDGE, AB – An expansion of École La Vérendrye’s gymnasium is set to begin this summer.

The City of Lethbridge has contributed $500,000 towards the expansion of the school, which will double the size of the gym and add more viewing area and amenities.

Funding is also coming from the provincial government, as outlined in the 2023 Budget.

Lethbridge East MLA and Alberta Infrastructure Minister Nathan Neudorf said, “That expansion is the whole reason we’re seeking to do this project, to make it safer, more accessible and usable for parents and spectators, as well as students and sport activities.”

The City of Lethbridge’s involvement means, once the gym expansion is completed, the space will be usable by all members of the community.

Lethbridge Mayor Blaine Hyggen added, “Its fantastic in the fact that the community can use thee school gymnasiums, and its used quite often. To be able to invest in these ways and to be able to book these facilities, from the city’s point of view, for the rest of the community is great.”

Neudorf could not give a firm timeline for the completion of the project, but says he hopes it will be done in 2-3 years.
