EDMONTON, AB – Alberta’s government said it is funding a grant to train people for aviation jobs.

The province is investing $5 million in 2023-2024 to help boost the aviation industry after employers said support is needed to help diversify the industry and develop the employees they need.

The Aviation Skills Grant program will provide Alberta-based aviation employers up to $30,000 per trainee to help offset training costs for new or vacant positions.

Eligible employers include Alberta-based aviation companies that provide training within the province, including air transportation, support for air transportation, and aerospace product and parts manufacturing. Applications open April 21, 2023, and run until May 26.

Brian Andrus, board secretary of the Alberta Aviation Council said, “Providing resources to support training from aircraft maintenance engineers to pilots to managers is important to moving our Alberta economy forward while providing employment in Alberta.”

According to a press release from the province, Alberta’s aviation industry is ranked third in Canada by company size, and employes 24,500 people as of February 2023.
