Lethbridge East candidates answer questions about seniors’ issues

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Nord-Bridge Seniors Centre held a candidates forum on Monday, April 24, 2023.

The event had the two Lethbridge East candidates, the UCP’s Nathan Neudorf and the NDP’s Rob Miyashiro, answering questions about seniors’ issues that will be addressed by their governments if elected.

Among the question topics was affordability and home care for seniors. Both candidates affirmed their party’s commitments to providing affordable senior care. They said they will do so by capping utility rate increases.

Miyashiro said, “The provincial government has the ability to do that, that’s how simple that is. The rate caps that are in place right now by the UCP government will go up June 1st, so it’s not much of a cap long term when you look at it that way.”

Neudorf added that if re-elected, the UCP will continue to monitor the regulated rate increase program, which he said kept rates down during high inflation rates in 2022.

A forum for candidates running in Lethbridge-West will be held at the Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization at 500 11 Street South, taking place on Friday, May 5, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The list of confirmed candidates in Lethbridge-West are as follows:

  • Shannon Phillips – NDP (incumbent)
  • Cheryl Seaborn – UCP
  • Patricia Chizek – Liberal

The provincial election is scheduled to be held on May 29, 2023.
