CHICAGO, ILL – An internationally-famous television host has passed away.

Jerry Springer died Thursday, April 27, 2023, at his home in suburban Chicago, Illinois at age 79.

Few details on the cause of death are available at this time, but a statement from his family said he died peacefully after a brief illness.

Springer was most well known as the host of The Jerry Springer Show, a ratings powerhouse that reached as many as seven million viewers in a single episode.

More than 4,000 episodes of the show aired during its 27-year run.

Springer was also actively involved in politics, serving as the mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio, from 1977-78. He was an aide in Robert F. Kennedy’s unsuccessful 1968 presidential campaign and ran for congress in 1970.

Gerald Norman Springer was born on February 13, 1944, in a London underground railway station that was being used as a bomb shelter.
