LETHBRIDGE, AB – Residents in some communities across southern and central Alberta are being advised that they might see a helicopter flying above their area at the beginning of May.

AltaLink will be using a helicopter to perform an aerial patrol of its electrical transmission facilities.

The patrolling will begin on Monday, May 1, 2023.

The annual task provides the company with a visual inspection of its transmission lines and surrounding vegetation, which it says helps to maintain the reliability of the grid through proactive maintenance.

People in the following communities may see a helicopter in their area:

  • Lethbridge
  • Coaldale
  • Fort Macleod
  • Pincher Creek
  • Stavely
  • Vauxhall
  • Burdett
  • Taber
  • Fincastle

AltaLink said it apologizes for any disturbance or inconvenience the work may cause. While doing the work, officials noted that the company “is mindful to minimize disruption to residences, area users, livestock and wildlife.” Anyone with questions or concerns can contact AltaLink at 1-877-267-1453.

The patrolling is expected to be finished by May 5, weather permitting.
