The Salvation Army perfects large-scale emergency meal prep during Pine Lake event
PINE LAKE, AB – As part of Emergency Preparedness Week (May 1-6), The Salvation Army held a cooking competition this weekend at its Pine Lake Camp.
More than 50 people, plus the entire 20-unit Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) vehicle fleet from across Alberta, were in attendance, marking the first time the entire fleet was in the same location — about 30 minutes southeast of Red Deer.
Those participating were tasked with practicing and perfecting recipes for large-scale emergency events where The Salvation Army would be deployed.
Brandie Howey, Divisional Manager for Marketing and Communications said, “This event had eight of The Salvation Army’s EDS mobile units cooking and preparing a meal as if in a real deployment. The competition was a training opportunity to try out new recipes in the units. All units had to prepare a healthy meal with a vegetarian or vegan option.”
