Troyanda Celebrates the Season at Yates Memorial Theatre – May 8, 2023

A colourful and lively showcase of dances, costumes, and music from various regions of Ukraine will be presented in Lethbridge on Monday, May 8. Troyanda’s Ukrainian Dance Club’s year-end concert at the Yates Memorial Theatre will focus on the theme of the four seasons. Tickets are by donation, with a portion of the proceeds going to Ukrainian Humanitarian Aid. Ukrainian newcomers are welcome to attend the show for free. Pro-Amateur Night at Good Times Lethbridge Comedy Club – May 10

On Wednesday, May 10, the Good Times Lethbridge Comedy Club will host its Pro-Amateur Night. Professional comics will test out new material, and newer performers can try their hand at stand-up comedy. Those looking to sign up for a guest spot, or grab tickets to the show, can do so online at the Good Times Lethbridge Comedy Club website.

Yoga and Tai Chi at Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden – May 11

The Canadian Yoga Institue has begun their Tai Chi and Yoga classes at Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden this month. Flow Yoga will take place every Wednesday starting at 6:00 p.m., while Yoga for Wellness will start at 5:30 p.m. every Thursday. Starting at 9:00 a.m. every Saturday, people can take part in short-form Yang Style Tai Chi. Drop-in passes can be purchased on the day of the event, or you can register through the Canadian Yoga Institue. More information can be found online.

Apollo Suns at The Slice Bar & Grill – May 11

Winnipeg-based band, Apollo Suns, will perform in Lethbridge this week. The nine musicians will showcase their instrumental, jazz, rock and psychedelic music starting at 9:00 p.m. at The Slice Bar and Grill. In 2018 and 2019, the band was awarded “Instrumental Artist of the Year” at the Western Canadian Music Awards. Ticket for their show can be purchased at the door.

University of Lethbridge Faculty of Fine Arts hosts –tzintlán at Fort Whoop-Up – May 11 to 13

University of Lethbridge (U of L) Faculty of Fine Arts students are set to host ‘Landmarks 2023’ art exhibition at Fort Whoop-Up this week. Titled ‘-tzintlán’, this temporary art carnival bills itself as the “world’s first postcolonial theme park” and promises to be a multimedia immersive experience that can be enjoyed by all. Visitors can expect games, live performances, interactive experiences and other creative works displayed throughout Fort Whoop-Up. Admission is free. Casa 10 Celebration: Open House – May 13

Casa is set to celebrate its 10-year anniversary this coming weekend with several free art classes, musical performances and other family-friendly activities throughout the day. From 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on May 13, guests are welcome to commemorate 10 years of Casa in the downtown core of Lethbridge. There will be a cake cutting ceremony, a guided gallery and facility tour, and a free performance from Oscar Lopez. Reuse Rendezvous – May 13

Environment Lethbridge is once again hosting its annual Reuse Rendezvous. Anyone interested in taking part is encouraged to place items marked “free” in front of their homes before 9:00 a.m. on May 13. During the day, people are invited to cruise the streets and help themselves to any of the items, free of charge. Any items remaining after 5:00 p.m. should be reclaimed by their original owners. Residents are reminded to clearly mark all items and to remove anything that’s not part of the event from the front of their property. PPW Maximum Impact! at Fritz Sick Centre – May 13

Pure Power Wrestling (PPW) will return to the Fritz Sick Centre in Lethbridge on May 13 for the Maximum Impact event. Tickets for the event can be found online at the Pure Power Wrestling website.

Alberta Genealogical Society – Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday

The Lethbridge branch of the Alberta Genealogical Society opens its resource centre to the public from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Community members are encouraged to come out and learn more about their history and try to trace their family trees.
