Lethbridge firefighters deployed to assist in wildfire response

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Taber Fire Department has confirmed that four members have been redeployed from High Prairie to Drayton Valley to help with wildfire relief efforts.

In a social media post, the department said, “We’re wishing them all the best, and sincerely hope that everyone in the north continues to remain safe.”

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services (LFES) is lending a helping hand to responders battling wildfires in central and northern parts of Alberta.

The City of Lethbridge confirmed on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, that LFES has deployed a crew of four firefighters to assist on the Buck Creek Fire in Brazeau County near Drayton Valley, Alberta.

Officials noted that the members will be on a three-day deployment, at which time the situation will be reassessed to determine if further help is required.

On Monday, May 8, it was announced that roughly 50 evacuees had settled in Lethbridge from northern communities impacted by wildfires on Sunday night, May 7. The residents were part of an assisted living facility and have been connected to similar sites in Lethbridge.

Officials with the provincial government said more than 29,000 individuals have been evacuated from communities affected by wildfires as of Sunday, May 7.
