Reuse Rendezvous returns to Lethbridge for 11th year

May 9, 2023 | 11:39 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Environment Lethbridge is excited to host its 11th annual Reuse Rendezvous event.

In 2011, the City of Lethbridge hosted the first Reuse Rendezvous, which provided residents with the opportunity to give away gently used items to their friends and neighbours for free.

Since then, Environment Lethbridge has taken over the initiative to promote and inspire widespread community action and engagement towards sustainability.

Kathleen Sheppard, Executive Director with Environment Lethbridge said, “Reuse Rendezvous is the perfect opportunity to declutter and pass on items that you no longer need. It’s also a great opportunity to find new-to-you treasures.”

She continued, “For anyone who has been spring cleaning their garage or basement, this is a great way to get rid of some unwanted items.”

Each year, hundreds of households participate and help divert thousands of useful items from the landfill.

To participate, residents can register their location online and place their items in front of their homes with a sign marked “FREE” on the morning of Saturday, May 13, 2023.

That day, people are invited to cruise the streets and help themselves to any of the items, free of charge. After 5:00 p.m., any remaining items should be reclaimed by their original owners.

“’Freecycling’ these items not only benefits homeowners, it’s good for the environment,” Sheppard added.

“People give away everything from furniture to secondhand books. It’s an easy way to pass things along to someone who wants them.”

Residents collecting items during the Reuse Rendezvous event are reminded to only take items that are clearly marked as “FREE” to prevent unfortunate mix-ups.
