LETHBRIDGE, AB – A southern Alberta midfielder has signed with the Lethbridge College Kodiaks women’s soccer team. Shelby Bach joins the Kodiaks after playing for three years with the Medicine Hat College Rattlers, where she served as captain.

Bach said she first began to think about joining Lethbridge College after attending the Haylie Shoults Memorial Futsal Tournament in December and speaking with head coach Sean Carey.

She said in a news release from the Kodiaks, “I just talked to Sean a little bit and thought I still have a couple more years of eligibility – why not come play for pretty talented team? I think it’d be fun.”

The rivalry between the Kodiaks and Rattlers made the decision to switch teams a difficult one, but Bach said she took a year off after playing for Medicine Hat. Many of her former teammates had moved on.

Head coach Sean Carey said Bach had been on his recruiting radar for years. He said, “She’s fierce, she battles hard, and she fits my style of football.”

“She’s definitely going to give us so many options,” Carey added.

Bach graduated from Crescent Heights High School in Medicine Hat and plans to enrol in the General Arts and Science program at Lethbridge College.

She said she’s looking forward to playing for a team with more players.

“I’m used to 13 to 14 players on a team, and I’m looking forward to a full 22 players. I think that’ll be fun practicing with a full team.”
