LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta has announced the recipients of its 2023 spring grants.

In all, 44 projects are being supported by the Community Foundation, with the grants totalling $390,030 over three different programs.

The Community Priorities Fund will support 31 organizations through $226,800 in grants.

The Community Foundation said the funding came from private, unrestricted donations received over the past five decades. Eight of the grant recipients got an additional $63,080 from various Fields of Interest Funds. Meanwhile, the Lethbridge Auto Dealers Association provided an additional $15,500 to 14 projects. A list of the Community Priorities Fund grant recipients is available at the Community Foundation website.

Eight projects will benefit from $77,250 in funding from the Henry S. Varley Fund for Rural Life, which aims to help sustain a high quality of life for residents in rural areas. A list of recipients is available at the Community Foundation website.

The 2023 Youth in Action Grants program will help five projects with a total of $7,400 in funding. This includes $2,000 from a Field of Interest Fund. The program aims to empower young leaders by supporting initiatives led by youth that will benefit the community. Projects that receive funding through this grant must be started, led, and organized by residents of southwestern Alberta up to 25 years of age, and in collaboration with a charitable partner. The list of recipients is available at the Community Foundation website.

Executive director of the Community Foundation, Charleen Davidson said, “The projects we’re funding range from building renovations and upgrades to accessibility and inclusion to the welfare of both people and animals.”

She added, “It’s wonderful for us to be able to support the work of the many groups that deliver the diverse programs that help us maintain a high quality of life in Southwestern Alberta.”

The Community Foundation will spend the week of May 15 to 19, 2023 touring the region to hand-deliver the grants.
