RCMP cruiser struck by semi tractor near Stavely

STAVELY, AB – The RCMP has reported that an officer suffered minor injuries following an incident in southern Alberta.

At approximately 12:15 p.m. on Friday, May 19, 2023, Claresholm RCMP said an officer was conducting a traffic stop on Highway 2 north of Stavely. It was a fully marked police car with its emergency lights activated.

According to RCMP, a northbound semi tractor failed to move to the left lane and struck the police cruiser.

The officer was standing at the driver’s side door of the vehicle he had pulled over when the collision occurred. The minor injuries sustained by the officer were said to be the result of flying debris.

The driver of the vehicle in the traffic stop was not injured, but their vehicle was damaged.
