LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s soccer team has added a midfielder from Nelson, British Columbia to its roster.

Ryder Skolka has signed with the post-secondary team. Skolka currently attends L.V. Rogers Secondary School, and initially, he reached out to the Kodiaks to start the recruiting process.

Skolka said it was the team’s winning culture, mixed with some family ties to the area that piqued his initial interest in Lethbridge College.

Head coach of the Kodiaks, Sean Carey, said in a news release that Skolka “is a very strong central midfielder who came highly recommended from the Vancouver Whitecaps coaches.”

“He was one of their top recruits coming out of their interior B.C. programs this year,” Carey added.

Carey remarked that he was impressed by Skolka’s technical skills, saying, “When he’s on the ball, he can find space, distribute the ball and he’s got the ability to take it away from a player with his first touch.”

“He’s got some height and build to him which really can be intimidating on the field.”

Skolka was invited for a campus tour at Lethbridge College and a training session with the team, which helped in narrowing down his post-secondary decision.

Skolka is set to take the Business Administration program at Lethbridge College.

The college was the host school for the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Soccer Championships last season. The men’s team finished fourth in the South Division at the end of the regular season, and were eliminated from the post-season in the quarterfinals.
