MILK RIVER, AB – Multiple drivers were stopped by the Milk River RCMP for allegedly speeding through a construction zone in southern Alberta late last week.

On May 26, 2023, the RCMP received a call from a Volker Stevin highway crew. The crew advised police that they had set up a three kilometre long construction zone for CP Rail, who was working on the train crossing near Coutts, and vehicles were reportedly not slowing down.

The RCMP attended the scene and reported that 10 violation tickets were issued to drivers who were speeding through the construction zone with workers present. Officers went back the following day and said a total of 35 tickets were issued for the same offence.

Police said one vehicle was stopped for travelling 88 km/h in the 50 km/h speed zone. This carried a fine of $696.
