Record-breaking turnout of advance voters in Alberta election

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Elections Alberta has reported strong early voting numbers in the 2023 Alberta provincial election.

Advance voting was held from May 23-27, 2023, at 330 polling stations across the province.

Elections Alberta Chief Electoral Officer Glen Resler reports an increase of 8.29 per cent in advance ballots cast compared to the 2019 election.

“For the second election in a row, we have seen record-breaking voter turnout during advance voting days,” said Resler. “In 2019, we saw 700,476 ballots cast during the five days of advance voting; this year, we have welcomed 758,550 to the polls so far.”

Of those who took advantage of early voting, Elections Alberta said 21.9 per cent voted outside of their electoral division.

As thousands of Albertans remain displaced from their homes due to wildfires, the “Vote Anywhere Service” allowed them to still participate in the election.

The general election day is Monday, May 29, 2023.

Polling places are open until 8:00 p.m. Lethbridge News Now will provide full election results once they become available.
