LETHBRDIGE, AB – While it looks to be a pretty gloomy weekend with Environment Canada predicting rain for a majority of Friday, Saturday and Sunday, that won’t slow down the events taking place.

The Great AV Adventure – June 9, 2023

The Alberta Motor Association (AMA) is hosting a giant scavenger hunt on Friday. The Great EV Adventure will have participants taking over Lethbridge roads to solve riddles and potentially win $2,700 in prizes. Teams participating must drive an electric or hybrid vehicle during the competition, as well as bring a non-perishable item for AMA’s Fill Our Fleet program in support of food banks. The event runs from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and registration can be done at the AMA website.

Nikka Yuko Food Truck Friday – Every Friday

The Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden hosts Food Truck Fridays every Friday until September 29, 2023. Several food truck vendors will be parked outside Nikka Yuko in Lethbridge, including Santeria Taco Truck, Ma n Pa’s BBQ, That Hawaiian Burger Truck, Mama Lo’s, Vesano Pizza, Jerry’s Pop Shop, and more. The trucks will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Fridays.

Environment Week – June 4-10

Environment Lethbridge has several events planned to get community members connected to nature for Environment Week, a national initiative that runs from June 4 to 10, 2023. With only a couple of days left, residents can still take part in Yoga in the Park on June 9, and the Nature Play Fest on June 10 in Henderson Lake. Bike to Work Week – June 5 – 9

As part of Environment Week hosted by Environment Lethbridge, residents are encouraged to join the green movement that sees people riding their bikes to work. Commuters are encouraged to share photos on their social media accounts, tag Environment Lethbridge and use the hashtag #biketoworkyql.

Lighting Up Festival Square – June 9 to 11

Festival Square in Lethbridge celebrates its first anniversary this week, and the Downtown BRZ is set to host a party. On June 9, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., the Highway 3 Ale Trail Beer Garden will be open to the public with live music kicking off at 5:00 p.m. until late in the evening. On Saturday, a carnival for kids with bouncy castles, face painting and games will run from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a magic show starting at 1:00 p.m. On Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., a free pancake breakfast will take place in Festival Square. Spock Days – June 9 to 11

The Town of Vulcan’s annual Star Trek festival, Spock Days, is running Friday through Sunday this weekend. Home to the Star Trek-themed tourist centre and a replica of the Starship Enterprise. Events taking place include a Slo-Pitch tournament, a parade followed by a family fun fair, fireworks and much more. SAAG Summer Market – June 9 & 10

The Southern Alberta Art Gallery (SAAG) will partner with the Downtown BRZ to host a special supper edition of the annual artisan market. Local and regional artists will be in attendance selling their unique, handmade, quality goods. The event runs from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m on June 9 and 10, and admission is free for all. Target Hunger – June 10

The annual Target Hunger event takes place every June, where volunteers collect donations from local households in specially-marked plastic bags. Both the Lethbridge Food Bank and the Interfaith Food Bank are looking for non-perishable food items to be donated for their hampers. These include items like canned soup, vegetables and fruit, juice, pasta, and sauces. Residents are asked to place their yellow bags with their donations outside their door by 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and volunteers will be driving around the city to collect them. Lethbridge Farmers’ Market at Lethbridge & District Exhibition – Every Saturday from June 10 to October 14

It’s the first Farmers’ Market of the season in Lethbridge! Head on over to Lethbridge & District Exhibition this weekend to check out the region’s best produce, baked goods, homemade crafts and more. Markets are free to attend and run every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. from June 10 to October 14, 2023. Last year, it’s estimated that nearly 57,000 people attended the market on the exhibition grounds.

Ladies Drift Day at the Rocky Mountain Drift Club – June 10

This one’s for the girls. The Rocky Mountain Drift Club is hosting a women’s-only drifting event in Claresholm for the first time ever. Gals of all skill levels are welcome to try their hand on the track, with instruction available on the day of. While the event is strictly for ladies, everyone is encouraged to come out and cheer them on for free. The event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and more information can be found at the Rocky Mountain Drift Club Facebook page.

National Youth Roller Derby Fundraiser – June 10

This weekend, seven Lethbridge skaters joining the National Roller Derby Team will be fundraising to help send them off to France in July. The team will hold a car wash from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday at 261- 16 Avenue South. Those looking to help pay for flights and other expenses can donate to the athletes during that time and get their car washed.

Get Juicy – The Pride Ball Edition – June 10

The Lethbridge Electronic Music Festival (LEMF), Theatre Outré and the Owl Acoustic Lounge are geared up to present a special variety show with a Drag Race icon. Get Juicy, The Pride Ball Edition will star Lemon, who appeared on the first season of Canada’s Drag Race and RuPaul’s Drag Race: UK vs The World. It will also feature Justine Tyme, Francheska Dynamites, Sophie Wright, Poppy Puffter, Brandi Jayne and Dick Goblin. Tickets for the Saturday event can be purchased online at Showpass.

Yoga and Tai Chi at Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden – Every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday

The Canadian Yoga Institue has begun its Tai Chi and Yoga classes at Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden this month. Flow Yoga will take place every Wednesday starting at 6:00 p.m., while Yoga for Wellness will start at 5:30 p.m. every Thursday. Beginning at 9:00 a.m. every Saturday, people can take part in short-form Yang Style Tai Chi. Drop-in passes can be purchased on the day of the event, or you can register through the Canadian Yoga Institue. More information can be found online.

Alberta Genealogical Society – Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday

The Lethbridge branch of the Alberta Genealogical Society opens its resource centre to the public from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. The community is encouraged to learn more about their history and try to trace their family trees.
